Hone Microsoft Teams Integration

Hone's Microsoft Teams integration helps employees stay supported in the flow of work by bringing on-demand coaching and timely learning reminders directly into Microsoft Teams. Employees can interact with Hone’s AI coach whenever they need guidance and receive alerts for Hone programs and upcoming classes, all without leaving Teams.

L&D and HR leaders value the integration because it provides employees with continuous support, increases engagement in development programs, and reduces reliance on email by delivering important learning notifications directly inside Microsoft Teams.

• Admin Setup Required
  Two setup steps are required to enable the integration: connecting your Microsoft 365 tenant to Hone and installing the Hone Teams app in Microsoft Teams.

• One Microsoft 365 Tenant per Account
  Each Hone account can connect to one Microsoft 365 tenant at a time. If your organization needs to change the tenant connection, the existing connection must first be disconnected.

• Strengthen performance. Provide employees with an always-available AI coach they can interact with directly inside Microsoft Teams to navigate challenges and build leadership skills.

• Boost engagement. Increase participation in learning programs with notifications for program invitations, assigned classes, and automated reminders.

• Reduce inbox overload. Learning notifications are delivered directly in Microsoft Teams so employees see them where they already collaborate.

• Learning in the flow of work. Access AI coaching directly in Microsoft Teams without switching tools.

• Support when you need it. Ask Hone AI for help navigating workplace challenges, practicing new skills, or preparing for difficult conversations.

• Stay on track with learning. Receive notifications when you're invited to programs, assigned to classes, or when upcoming classes are approaching.

Hone’s Microsoft Teams integration keeps learners connected to their development with:

• AI coaching - On-demand coaching experiences available directly in Microsoft Teams.

• Program invites - Notifies learners when they are invited to a Hone learning program.

• Assigned classes - Alerts learners when a new Hone class is assigned.

• Class reminders - Reminders sent 24 hours before and the day of class.

• Check-Ins - Outreach that follows up on conversations had with Hone AI Coach.

Two steps are required to enable the integration.

This step authorizes Hone to communicate with your Microsoft tenant.

1. Log in to the Hone Admin Dashboard.

2. Navigate to Account Settings → Integrations.

3. Locate Microsoft Teams Integration.

4. Select Connect Microsoft 365 tenant.

5. Sign in with a Microsoft administrator account.

6. Review and approve the requested permissions.

Once authorized, Hone will be able to securely send notifications and enable AI Coach within Microsoft Teams.

An IT administrator must install the Hone Teams app in Microsoft Teams.

1. Download the Hone Microsoft Teams app package (.zip) from the Hone integration page.

2. Sign in to the Microsoft Teams Admin Center.

3. Navigate to: Teams apps → Manage apps

4. Select Upload new app.

5. Upload the Hone app package.

6. Review and approve the app.

7. Configure App permission policies and App setup policies so the app is available to users.

Once approved, the Hone app will appear in your organization's Teams app store.

Admins can pin the Hone app so it appears in the Teams sidebar.

1. In the Microsoft Teams Admin Center, navigate to: Teams apps → Setup policies

2. Edit the policy assigned to your users (for example Global (Org-wide default)).

3. Under Pinned apps, select Add apps.

4. Search for Hone and add it to the pinned apps list.

5. Save the policy.

After enabling the integration, Hone will send learners the following notifications in Microsoft Teams.

Learners will receive a notification when they are invited to a Hone learning program.

Learners will be notified when a class is assigned to them.

Day Before Reminder
Sent 24 hours before the scheduled class.

Day Of Reminder
Sent on the day of the class.

All notifications are delivered as direct messages from the Hone Teams app to the learner’s Microsoft Teams account linked to their Hone profile.

If you want to disconnect Hone from Microsoft Teams without removing the app:

1. Navigate to the Hone Admin Dashboard.

2. Go to Account Settings → Integrations.

3. Locate the Microsoft Teams Integration.

4. Select Disconnect Microsoft 365 tenant.

Disconnecting will stop all future Teams notifications and disable Hone AI Coach within Teams.

To completely remove the Hone app from Microsoft Teams:

1. Sign in to the Microsoft Teams Admin Center.

2. Navigate to: Teams apps → Manage apps

3. Search for Hone.

4. Select the Hone app.

5. Choose Delete or Block.

6. Confirm the removal.

Once removed, the Hone Teams app will no longer be available to users.

Hone AI Coach can be accessed directly within the Hone Teams app, allowing employees to get real-time coaching support inside Microsoft Teams.

Availability depends on your organization's Hone AI plan. If your organization does not currently have access, please contact your Customer Account Manager.

When Hone AI is enabled for learners at your organization, they will get a notification in the app. Please see the picture below to see the message. 

Hone AI Check-Ins in Microsoft Teams

After a Hone AI interaction, Hone’s AI Coach keeps the conversation going. It intelligently determines when support will be most valuable and reaches out directly in Microsoft Teams, either before or after a key moment.

For example, if you have provided insight that you are going to have an upcoming conversation with someone, you would get the following messages in Microsoft Teams.

• Before: “Here’s the feedback script we discussed for your upcoming 1:1 with John.”
• After: “How did your 1:1 with John go?”

Does installing the Teams app automatically connect Hone to Microsoft 365?
No. The Microsoft 365 tenant must first be connected through the Hone admin settings.

Do learners need to install the app themselves?
No. Once the app is installed and allowed by your organization’s Teams policies, learners can access it automatically.

Can admins test Hone AI Coach before enabling it for all users?
Yes. Hone AI can be configured for Admin Only access to allow testing before broader rollout.

Who should perform the setup?
Setup typically requires both a Hone administrator and a Microsoft Teams administrator.
