Degreed Integration Setup Guide

Overview

This guide walks you through connecting your Degreed account to Hone. Before you begin, ensure you have Administrator access in both Hone and Degreed.

The setup process consists of three steps:

1. Generate API credentials in Degreed.
2. Configure the integration in Hone.
3. Validate the connection and publish your learning content.

Step 1: Generate API Credentials in Degreed

To allow Hone to securely communicate with Degreed, you'll first create an API client in Degreed.

1. Sign in to Degreed as an administrator.
2. Navigate to Dashboard > Integrations > API Keys.
3. Select Create New API Key.
4. Enter a name for the API key, such as Hone.
5. Leave all other settings at their default values unless instructed otherwise by your Degreed administrator.
6. Select Save.

After the API key is created, Degreed displays:

• Client ID
• Client Secret

Important: Copy both values and store them in a secure location before leaving the page. Depending on your Degreed configuration, the Client Secret may only be displayed once.

Recommended Storage

Store your API credentials using your organization's approved secrets management solution, such as:

• A password manager (for example, 1Password or Bitwarden)
• A secrets management platform (such as AWS Secrets Manager, Azure Key Vault, or Google Secret Manager)
• Another secure credential vault approved by your organization

Avoid storing API credentials in shared documents, email, chat messages, or source code repositories.

Step 2: Configure the Integration in Hone

1. Sign in to Hone as an administrator.
2. Navigate to Account Settings > Integrations > LMS.
3. Select Degreed.
4. Enter the following connection details:

Note: The API Host and Token URL vary based on your organization's Degreed environment and data center. Refer to the Degreed API documentation for the appropriate endpoints, and ensure both values correspond to the same environment and data center (for example, US Production or EU Betatest).

After entering your credentials, select Test Connection. If the connection is successful, continue to the final step.

Step 3: Connect and Publish Learning

After successfully validating the connection:

1. Select Connect.
2. Hone will begin publishing your supported learning content to Degreed.
3. You can monitor the publishing progress directly from the integration setup page.

Note: The initial publication may take several minutes depending on the amount of learning content being published.

Once the initial publication completes, supported updates to learning content are automatically published to Degreed.

Troubleshooting

If the connection test fails:

• Verify that the Client ID and Client Secret were copied correctly.
• Confirm the API key is active in Degreed.
• Ensure your Degreed account has permission to create and manage API keys.
